On Wednesday June 30th, Toronto is coming together to give back. Rapper Kardinal Offishall produced and curated a new concert series FREE THE CITY, that bridges generations, area codes and genres. “My city has been hurting for a long time and I wanted to create an event that allowed us all to come together safely and finally be able to celebrate, heal, and enjoy while rocking to a beautiful sonic backdrop of the sounds of Toronto,” says the multi-award winning rapper, DJ, producer, and music executive.

“Many of us have suffered during the pandemic. Being physically distant and trying to remain socially connected has taken its toll on the City of Toronto and the world at large. We haven’t gotten to celebrate together, grieve together, or take part in the everyday joys of life”.

Hosted by Mark Strong (the voice of the Toronto Raptors), and supported by RX Music and Slaight Music, the night will include participation from some of the world’s most legendary entertainers, DJ’s and celebrities including Dave Chappelle, Notifi, Michael Che (SNL), Donnell Rawlings, Glenn Lewis, Karl Wolf, Shantel May, Michie Mee, Jamar McNeil (Chum FM), DJ 4 Korners from the Raptors, Swaggerite, Dr. Jay de Soca Prince, Jester, Blessed, Agile, Asun Eastwood, Golde London and many more!

LEAD BY EXAMPLE. STRENGTH IN NUMBERS.

All profits from Free The City will be split up amongst the performers and deejays-most of whom have not had the opportunity to work in well over a year. Toronto has seen stories of hundreds of traditional businesses closing down during the pandemic-but we haven’t taken a deep dive into how many of our favourite and soon to be favourite entertainers saw very little income and lost the ability to earn a living. The goal of FREE THE CITY is to lift the spirits of everyone in attendance-creatives and fans. As the world opens up, so do our hearts. Join us, as we Free The City together.
