Kēvens: Unforgettable That’s What You Are
Kingston, Jamaica – For two long weeks, my phone rang incessantly, morning, noon, and night. On the other end was a high-profile producer who had promised an artist he described as unforgettable.
“Believe me!” he stressed, like a child seeing Santa for the first time.
He began to unwrap the gift, carefully removing the transparent tapes that unlocked the longer ends.
“You will be amazed. If there’s only one thing I can tell you at this very moment, it’s that,” he said.
I accepted the metaphorical package over the phone, eager to witness the surprise. As he spoke, unfamiliar words were unveiled before me, like a newborn star appearing right before my eyes.
At the bottom of the conversation was a link: www.kevens.com. A whirl of music and photos suddenly landed in my mind, like a spaceship from the moon.
There was Kēvens, sharing the same stage with The Jackson Five.
I nearly lost my imagination, which I had guarded for many, many years.
Then came another photo: Kēvens and Cedella Booker, Bob Marley’s mother, and even more.
My curiosity grew stronger as I tapped into his videos.
“What manner of man is this?” I questioned myself.
“Think you’ve seen anything yet? Just listen to his music,” the goodly producer said with a cynical chuckle.
“Bet you won’t stop begging for more,” he added.
“Better change that ‘begging’ notion; better you had said ‘searched,'” I responded.
“I beg your pardon,” he said, laughing.
My ears were thirsty as I listened to “Legal Dreamers,” which went number one on the Jamaica Reggae Top 25 Charts.
Kēvens will be releasing his album soon, with tracks including “Little Boy Blue,” “Sweet Lady,” “This is Love,” and “Battle for Peace.”
