Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Lovell Sworn in as Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force

Bridgetown, Barbados – Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Lovell has officially assumed his new role as Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) after being sworn in during a formal ceremony at State House Tuesday. The event, which took place on September 17, 2024, was attended by top government officials, military personnel, and dignitaries.

Lieutenant Colonel Lovell took the Oath of Allegiance before Her Excellency, The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason, President of Barbados. The solemn ceremony marked the official transfer of military leadership to Lovell, who brings years of experience and a strong track record in service to the BDF.

In her remarks, President Mason highlighted the importance of strong leadership within the military, particularly during times of national and global uncertainty. “The Barbados Defence Force is an essential pillar in ensuring the security and safety of our nation. With Lieutenant Colonel Lovell at the helm, I am confident that the BDF will continue to uphold its high standards of service,” she said.

Lieutenant Colonel Lovell’s appointment follows a distinguished military career. His leadership is expected to guide the BDF through ongoing national defence initiatives, as well as supporting regional and international peacekeeping efforts.
