Massive JLP Conference Breaks Record

The 76th Annual Conference of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) was held on Sunday November 24, 2019. The massive crowd estimated at 60,000 jam packed the National Arena with the crowd outside bigger than that inside if not doubled those on the inside. The balconies and floor area were filled to capacity. The fire department referred to as Fire Marshall’s office had ordered the venue closed due to fire concerns early and for the safety of attendees. The police had this advice announced over the public address system.

PM Dr. Keith Mitchell

There were as host of usual speakers including foreign invited friendly party guests from regional political parties. Included was the PM of the New Freedom Party of Grenada Dr. Keith Mitchell. He thanked Jamaica for restoring democracy after the murder of their leader Maurice Bishop by revolutionary elements in Grenada in 1984. Mitchell further stated that Grenada has learnt a lot from Jamaica. He also commended the Holness led administration for their success with the economy.

Crowd Conduct

Despite the massive outpouring of support that saw some 60, 000 converge on Independence Park aka the National Stadium compound where the National Arena is located. The actual 75 JLP Conference was held there. This venue was filled to capacity. More persons doubled on the outside those who were on the inside as stated before.

PM Holness in his wide ranging address announced that his government will focus on establishing up to six new technology centres. He also plans to enact legislation to make this possible. On foreign relations he said Jamaica still enjoyed a great relationship with the USA despite views to the contrary.

The police report that the conference was incident free.
