Mia Mottley Marks 61st Birthday With Message of Gratitude
Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley reflects on life, family, public service and the support she has received as she celebrates another year.
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley marked her 61st birthday with a personal message of gratitude, reflecting on life, family, friendship, service and the people who have supported her through both difficult and joyful moments.
A Birthday Shaped by Gratitude
Mottley said she has never been one to make a great fuss about her birthday, but described this year’s milestone as especially meaningful after the experiences of 2026.
“Today, as I turn 61, what I feel most is gratitude,” Mottley wrote in a social media post. She said the love shared and losses felt during the year had made the gift of another birthday particularly precious, adding that such moments underscore the importance of having people with whom to share life.
Family, Friends and Public Service
The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for her family, friends and those who support her away from the public spotlight. She also spoke about what serving Barbados means to her.
“I am grateful for life. For my family, my friends and the people who quietly hold me up. For the privilege of serving this country I love,” Mottley wrote.
She also thanked those whose encouragement has strengthened her during challenging periods, telling supporters: “I could not do this without you.”

Birthday Wishes Pour In
Mottley thanked people who had already sent birthday greetings and those expected to reach out throughout the day.
“I feel the love, and I do not take a moment of it for granted,” she wrote, while thanking supporters for continuing to walk with her as she gives her best in service to Barbados and its people.
More Than Three Decades in Public Life
Mottley was born in Barbados on October 1, 1965, according to the Government of Barbados. She has represented St. Michael North East in Parliament since 1994 and became Barbados’ first female Prime Minister in 2018. She was appointed Prime Minister again in February 2026 and currently also serves as Minister of Economic Affairs and Development and Minister of National Security.
Her birthday message focused less on political milestones than on gratitude for another year of life and the relationships that have sustained her along the way.
Still on the Job
Despite plans to enjoy the occasion, Mottley made clear that her birthday would not mean stepping away from her responsibilities for the day.
“I am going to try to enjoy today. I am still going to work, though! 😊” she wrote.
