A statement says the individual under investigation is a male foreign national who travelled to the Bahamas.
Samples were taken from the patient for further laboratory evaluation. Monkeypox has been identified in more than 27 countries where it is not endemic.
Most of the cases are in Europe, North America, Mexico, Argentina and Morocco.
