New Music: Black Lion Releases a Seven Song Lyric Video EP titled FREE ASSOCIATION
On Saturday August 18th Black Lion hosted a listening party where they debuted their 7 song EP FREE ASSOCIATION in front of an intimate crowd at the Harlem Underground. In a creative twist Black Lion’s 7 song EP is an audio-visual production with each of the seven songs having a lyric video attached to it. The collaborative album includes notable featured artists and producers including grammy nominated Toronto production juggernaut Tone Mason, as well as soulful melodies from one of Toronto’s finest, R&B/Soul artist Ray Robinson.
Hosted by Testament (P.E.A.C.E.) with sets by Versatone Sound (Black Lion affiliate DJ) the evening also included free cake in celebration of the new release as well as the birthday of Black Lion founder and producer, Rich Lindo. Attendees who joined the mailing list had their names entered in a draw to win one of seven door prizes (an amazon gift card, a free copy of the EP, drink tickets). Those in attendance were also called upon to vote on their favourite three songs off of the release.
In 2015, Black Lion’s debut mixtape Black Lion Presents: The Prodigy and the Architect earned them a Canadian Music Week showcase. In 2016 the duo was the successful recipient of an Ontario Arts Council Grant in support of their future musical endeavours. Black Lion’s remix of Sade’s Soldier of Love went viral with over one million YouTube hits.
