New York police join family members in Guyana to pay last respects to slain officer
GEORGETOWN, Guyana(AP) _ Officers from the New York Police Department are in Guyana for the funeral of a slain comrade from the South American country.
Dozens of officers and some of the slain officer’s relatives were at the main airport as the plane carrying Randolph Holder’s coffin arrived in Guyana. They planned to attend a wake on Friday. President David Granger was expected to attend the funeral on Saturday at the main Catholic cathedral in Georgetown.
Holder’s father, also named Randolph, is a retired NYPD officer. The elder Holder said he was overwhelmed by the support the family has received both in Guyana and the United States.
Holder was shot in the line of duty on Oct. 20. A suspect has been arrested and charged.
