Nicki Minaj Launches Fashion Line for Kmart
Rapper and singer Nicki Minaj, known for her colorful and often outrageous fashion choices, is now giving people a chance to dress just like her.
On Tuesday, Minaj launched a new clothing line for Kmart andShopYourWay.com. The Nicki Minaj Collection includes such items as color block skirts, bandage dresses, deconstructed jean jackets and galaxy print bomber jackets.
According to the Associated Press, the rapper has no plans to become a fashion designer, but instead wants to share clothes that suit her style with people across America. Her inspiration? She says it’s higher-priced luxury brands such as Versace, Chanel and Herve Leger.
A representative for Minaj didn’t return a request for a comment.
The new collection by Minaj, who spent a season as a judge on “American Idol,” has items that range from $3.99 to $37.99.
The fashion world can be unforgiving to celebrities. In 2009, the Journal covered the difficulties faced by Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Montag, Mandy Moore and Nicky Hilton,who all shuttered collections in the midst of economic woes. In a recent TV interview with Jimmy Kimmel, rapper Kanye West shared his frustration with trying to break into the higher-end part of the fashion market.
