July 27, 2022 | By Colin O. Jarrett |

Minister of National Security in Bermuda Michael Weeks has revealed that between 250 to 1,000 persons on the island are directly or indirectly involved in gang activity.

While revealing these startling figures, he is calling for the community to band together to ensure criminals and criminality do not take root in society.

Minister Weeks said children as young as 8 have already pledged their allegiance to one of the territory’s gangs.  Bermuda recorded its first gang-related murder in 2001.

In 2004, the first gang-related murder involving a firearm was recorded.  Over the last 22 years, there have been 71 murders where weapons were used.
