No Styrofoam Day … Celebrated on Friday, April 22, 2016 In Ja. W.I.

No Styrofoam Day

Today is being celebrated as No Styrofoam Day. The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) has been at the forefront of the drive to ban the Styrofoam use. NEPA is also on board.

NEPA

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) has been promoting the idea of looking the other way as it relates to the use of styrofoam.

Annually they (NEPA) do a clean up of the environment. Foam blocks the drains and studies have shown that this product does not breakdown for years.

The ocean and reefs are destroyed by this popular product.

Poetic Commentary

Foam is an agent of death …
Failure to ban … we will regret …
Let us do the right thing …
Today we should begin

Let us put our health and the environment first …
Just ban the foam
So we can stay around …
