January 12, By Colin O. Jarrett |

A male patient diagnosed with the first case of monkeypox in Jamaica was found Saturday afternoon at a house in Four Paths, Clarendon hours after he fled isolation at a health facility in the parish.

According to police reports, he fled the hospital through a bathroom window.  Hours later, he was held at a house holding his infant child at his mother’s house.

His mother and the child have since been placed in quarantine as a precaution.

The patient having arrived from the UK earlier this month, visited a health facility with symptoms of the virus and was tested positive with monkeypox.

Monkeypox is a viral disease that usually presents with mild to moderate symptoms.  The symptoms include fever, intense headache, swelling of the lymph nodes, back pain, muscle ache, lack of energy and/or rash.
