Bahamian PM Philip Brave Davis Praises the National Youth Guard Program

Nassau, Bahamas — Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis expressed his pride in the success of the National Youth Guard program, which was launched to equip young Bahamians with essential skills to support national efforts during emergencies. In a tweet on September 14, 2024, Davis shared his enthusiasm for the program’s latest group of recruits, who are currently undergoing intensive training.

The National Youth Guard, now in its third cohort, has been instrumental in preparing young people to assist the nation’s security forces, particularly in response to climate-related emergencies. The Prime Minister highlighted how these recruits are not only gaining technical knowledge but also developing leadership capabilities in multiple fields.

“We launched the National Youth Guard because we believed young Bahamians would step up to support our country during national emergencies. And they have answered the call!” Davis wrote, emphasizing the importance of the initiative.

He also expressed his pride in the young recruits, describing them as “talented and hard-working,” and noted that the skills they are acquiring will benefit them in future career endeavors while contributing to the country’s resilience.

The Prime Minister’s optimism about the future was clear as he shared his gratitude for the commitment of these young Bahamians. “We are grateful and excited to see you through the next steps of your journey!” Davis concluded, reflecting the government’s ongoing investment in youth development through programs like the National Youth Guard.

This initiative comes at a critical time, as The Bahamas faces increasing challenges due to climate change, including stronger hurricanes and rising sea levels. By preparing its youth to take on pivotal roles in disaster response, the country is fostering a generation of leaders equipped to protect and serve.
