Last week, Jamaican PM Andrew Holness addressed Parliament regarding the budget debate.

Housing Relief

In a nutshell the Jamaican PM promised to establish a land bank so the homeless and new home owners can get relief in building their homes and reduction from the National Housing Trust (NHT) by borrowing less to own a home.

Instead of paying $39,000 for for a three bedroom house, a borrower could end up paying $29, 500 instead. The land would help beneficiaries to pay reduced mortgages.

Entertainment Sector

The government operates many venues and theses locations are income earners.

“I have directed that all government’ entities, that rent venues, examine the possibility of cutting their rental rates or making the venues rent-free for defined events. I will update the sector on this at a later stage”

The PM has also acknowledged that culture is big business and has also reminded the JA$1 million dollars in grants have been given by Minister Grange to the entertainment sector.

Commentary

The Entertainment sector earns millions and it is hoped that they will act responsibly.
