PM Andrew Holness Blast PNP For “Vulgar Opportunism”

Speaking on his ongoing island wide vaccination tour the PM said that the Opposition met with the government and had arrived at full agreement as to the way to go vaccine wise. The objective of the exercise is to boost the take up of the vaccine. Returning the country to normalcy by achieving herd immunity is the main objective the PM has stressed. The government announced a target of 65 percent of population being vaccinated to achieve herd immunity.

Fifty Percent

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) have recommended 50 percent of population vaccinated as acceptable to be considered fully vaccinated.

“This is not a political tour”.

Stated PM Andrew Holness responding to criticisms leveled by Dr. Dayton Campbell, General Secretary of the People’s National Party (PNP). Dr. Campbell asserted that the PM was using the vaccination tours to firm up support for upcoming Local Government Elections due February 2022. The PM rejected strongly this contention.

Vulgar Opportunism the PM used the term vulgar opportunism to describe how heist rejection of Dayton Campbell.

Commentary 

The PM further blasted the Opposition for as he termed it “vulgar opportunism”. This has been interpreted as the PM accusing the Opposition of distorting his genuine intention to boost the uptake of vaccination instead PM Holness is trying to fool the people in believing he is using the vaccination as a disguise to launching a political campaign.
