Lester Mike Henry now Minister

As we know Minister Shahine Robinson transitioned on May 29, 2020. There has been a rich outpouring of grief as her closed casket makes its round in her constituency and yesterday June 16, 2020 at the JLP HQ, Belmont Road, St. Andrew, Jamaica.

Mike Lester Henry 80+ has been appointed Labour and Social Security Minister. Currently the octagerian is Minister Without Portfolio in the Office Of The Prime Minister. Henry will replace Shahine Robinson only three weeks after her death from cancer. Her burial date is yet to be announced.

Commentary

Why The Indecent Haste?

Considering that Shahine’s body is yet to be buried it could be seen as insensitive to not at least await her burial. This is one way we show respect to the dead. There is a Junior Minister in the person of Zavia Mayne, an attorney-at-law and Junior Minister in the Ministry of Labour & Social Security Ministry. It it is as if the Ministry is without any Ministerial support.

Veteran Politician

Hon. Lester Mike Henry is a JLP MP from 1980 in Central Clarendon, and has served as Minister of Government in at least two previous Ministries. Transport and Works is one that readily comes to mind. He has served under at least two PMs Bruce Golding and Andrew Michael Holness recently. Previously PM, Hon. Edward Phillip George Seaga.

We congratulate Hon. Lester Mike Henry on his new appointment.
