PM Holness Goes To China On State Visit

Prime Minister Andrew Holness of Jamaica W.I. will proceed on a State Visit to China on November 2 -9, 2019. Details of the reason for the visit or what it is hoped to be achieved was not released.

There have been large scale construction related projects are being undertaken in Jamaica by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). Many of these projects are funded by the Exim Bank of China. They are time sensitive and therefore has to be taken up within a certain time. Failure to take up the funding by a certain time could render a take up of funding a certain project null and void.

PM Portia Simpson Miller did visit China on a State Visit before. The controversial Goat Island project was announced, however, after much environmental outcry this project was abandoned. Relaxation of visa requirements from China to Jamaica were implemented. Tourism has been improved as a result of this arrangement … in fact boosted.
