PM Holness Thanks Jamaican Swimmer Alia Atkinson After she Announces her Retirement

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness took to social media today to thank Olympic Swimmer Alia Atkinson for her years of representing Jamaica at the highest level in the sport of swimming. The PM issued the following statement after the Olympian announced she would be retiring from the sport:
“World record holder, 5-time Jamaican Olympian, and 4-time breaststroke world champion Alia Atkinson announced her retirement from her nearly two-decade-long swimming career yesterday.
In 2014, Alia Atkinson became the first black woman to win a world championship swimming title in the 100m breaststroke at the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Doha, Qatar.
Thank you, Alia, for representing Jamaica with passion and determination on the world stage. We are proud of your accomplishments and wish you a relaxing retirement.”
