POETIC PERSPECTIVE: Labour Day 2017

It was quite a spectacle to see both Phillips & Holness at the theatre …

Not holding hands together …
Instead cleaning the Grand Old Lady of Kingston …
Giving her an overdue renovation

It was one of the Official Projects
for 2017 Labour Day …
Such projects won the sway …
This theatre is called the Ward …
The edifice has lately been shown scant regard …

PM Holness was seen scaling old paint from the wall …
Trust me he did stand tall …
The Ward is an historic landmark
in Kingston …
A place known for great cultural expression

Churches, monuments,  and even schools …
Got attention from volunteers with their tools
It was a really productive day
Patriotism did win the sway

Pantomimes, Ronnie & Miss Lou et al …
They helped the Ward in the past to be quite Regal
It is superb architecture of the Gothic Era …
To see the Ward’s renovations … for theatre lovers, could ignite hysteria

The showpiece of Downtown Kingston,  a hundred years ago
This was where the lowly and even the gentry did flow …
To perform there was akin to the Royal Albert Hall
In recent times the disrepair did appall

Least to mention indiscriminate urination
Which is quite an abomination …
By those repeatedly committing this moral sin …
Thinking such is no big thing

Stop defacing our beautiful Island …
This conduct is by no means regal …
Displaying your tool zo publicly …
Does not make you a celebrity, eh!

It was the stench from other things including stale urine …
That makes this perspective so sanguine
We wonder if our Leaders drank something White …
Produced by Wray & his Nephew not a beer that is Light …

Phillips is believed to like the bottle …
As for PM Holness, First Lady Juliet may put on the muzzle …
She appears to exercise strong wifely control …
Does she really play that role?

Minister Grange of Culture fame
Says the Ward will retain its good name …
By August 2017, for use this
Independence …
Grange spoke with her usual confidence ..

Mayor Williams was on hand to lend support …
This lends for a good report …
Let us restore the Ward to her former glory ….
To do otherwise would indeed be a cultural travesty …

Footnote

Our strong perspectives make good news …
As we pull no punches with our views
That is why we are seen as transparent, if not true ….
Because we are always there for you …

Amen!
