Poetic Perspective: Ode To The Cover-less Lover

The die was cast …
Torrential rains … the overcast
The roadways were wet …
Causing many to fret

Water flooded the street …
In parts it was deep …
With wayward gravel & debris …
Garbage & potholes … not bliss

Driving was treacherous
Prescription for tyres to burst
Windscreen became frosty …
Greater focus … now on safety …

There was untold anxiety
As thoughts of tragedy …
The going was unkind
Determination foremost in mind

Mattie manned the a/c switch
The temp colder than we wish
She had a shawl for warmth
Me, as if just got a cold bath

Some vehicles stalled …
My travel partner was alarmed
“Do you think we will make it?
Yes, we are good, was her edit …

Landslides were abundant
Road destruction rampant
Water tables high and rising
Motorists were screaming…

The torrential rains were heavy
The deluge was steady …
Gullies were filling up …
Water table up as sinkhole sup

Due to the downpour …
The visibility was extremely poor
Water came up to our car door
We fell into a ditch for sure…

It gave us quite a pitch …
That was the only itch …
No puncture, so we kept going …
We postponed investigating

Consequentially, we kept going ..
Although traffic was slowing
Vehicles put on four way amber
Indicating potential for disaster

Signaling of likely or near danger
We passed a forty foot trailer
On its side in a ravine ….
The sight was not pristine …

Were alerted by flashing purple
As the police was on the double
We did not stop to get detail …
Retrieving same, some ordeal …

Wisdom dictated that we be real
This was nothing surreal …
Weather conditions were bad
Wrong move, we could be sad

The lad could not go home
Marooned at partner’s home
“You can bunk it on the couch …
Beside the front porch. ….”

There was no cover for lover
Not even a sheet to pull over
A blanket would suffice …
Without undue sacrifice ….

“Yes, I will take up your offer ….
Weather is a certain disaster …”
“Roomie not to know you’re here
Relax … the space we’ll share …”

Makeshift sleeping area.. rough ..
As couch was tough ….
It was not even a love seat …
Grateful it was not on the street

Alas! Morning finally broke …
As temp rapidly fell … no joke
Alas!  Guest was cold …
No blanket in which to fold

An idea lingering in my mind
Why were you so unkind?
There was no door …
Your judgment was also poor

“I forgot, do not cater for men …
That’s the cause, I’ll mend…
“Was tempted to lie beside you…
But, did not get the cue …”

Breakfast was in the package
Cereal, oats and hot beverage
Meal went down well …
Alas! Toast, unburnt, to go tell …

A case of the cover-less lover
As the cold made him shiver
This plan was not too clever
But kinship this will not sever

There are ties that bind
Even as she appeared unkind
A loving daughter, hard to find
Being man-less led to a bind

“Will be careful how I treat you …
You can be true …
I know I could trust you …
That can only be said of a few “

Was stupid not to dent her bed?
She was appreciative instead
Her bed was not cold …
Under blankets, she later told …

Ah! You fool, make the move
In future, fall in the groove …
Warmth awaited you …
Goodies reserved for a few …?

Placed in a position of trust
One must be robust ….
There can only be one focus …
Be trustworthy, without raucous

Ah, ah, ah …

Commentary

It was an interesting series of events that unfolded as described above.  There were a comedy of errors but also a teachable moment for all concerned. Enjoy the ride!
