Portland’s Future Brightens with Groundbreaking of Boundbrook Urban Centre

Portland, Jamaica – In a landmark development for Portland, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced the groundbreaking of the Boundbrook Urban Centre. This significant project aims to bring transformative economic and social benefits to the parish.

The Boundbrook Urban Centre will be constructed on a 6.68-acre site and is designed to become a modern, climate-resilient hub that will stimulate economic growth and redevelopment in Portland. The development will feature 148,000 square feet of advanced infrastructure, incorporating green technology to promote environmental sustainability.

“The Boundbrook Urban Centre is set to enhance Portland’s economic landscape and make it an attractive destination for investment and growth,” stated Holness. “This project is a testament to our commitment to improving the quality of life for Jamaicans through focused and sustainable infrastructure initiatives.”

The centre is projected to generate between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs, offering employment opportunities across government, commerce, and education sectors. With its accessible facilities, scenic seacoast views, and emphasis on green technology, the Boundbrook Urban Centre is expected to boost Portland’s economy and appeal.

Holness also addressed the challenges faced by Portland, including congestion and infrastructure limitations. He acknowledged that while development is a gradual process, the government is dedicated to making substantial progress. “We recognize that development cannot happen overnight, but we are committed to making significant strides,” he said.

The Boundbrook Urban Centre is anticipated to act as a catalyst for further investment and growth in the region, supporting Portland’s development and enhancing its attractiveness to businesses and residents. This project aligns with national goals of improving infrastructure and driving economic advancement throughout Jamaica.
