Queen IFrica’s “I Can’t Breathe” Takes Off

June 01, 2020 | By Natasha Von Castle |

Although Queen IFrica’s album Climb was released in 2017, one track is catching the attention of music lovers, and that song deserves a re-visit. The song is “I Can’t Breathe.”

Combining one-drop Reggae with hints of Gospel, Queen’s lyrics, especially the chorus, is thought provoking and directs our attention to the events happening today. The chorus concludes by saying “we ain’t gonna stop until our people are free.” When we look at events happening in parts of the US and around the world, particularly instances of injustice, you understand why this song is so important, even though it was released 3 years ago.
