Pre Dawn Raids Nab 5 in Fraud Case

In a dramatic move this morning in Jamaica five (5) public and connected parties being investigated by the law enforcement officials with alleged fraud at the Education Ministry and the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU). were detained in a pre-dawn raid. No charges have been laid to date.

DPP

The Director Of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Ms. Paula Llewellyn has broken her silence on the pre-dawn detentions of 5 persons on alleged corruption charges. The DPP said inter alia:

“My office was not consulted prior to the pre-dawn raids and detentions. They were not obligated to consult with us … “as investigators they have primacy over their investigations”. A fiat may be applied to my office for permission to proceed with this prosecution” Continuing inter alia Ms. Paula Llewellyn said “It is indeed unusual for this procedure … but I will say no more … they could be further interviewed and sent home. It is their prerogative.” Declared a rather peeved sounding prosecutor. Vision’s SIC monitored the interview aired on a local radio station in Jamaica W.I.

Innocent

We watch this case closely as the optics from a political standpoint is not looking good for the government in power. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.
