President Ruto Reaffirms Support for Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation in Advancing Women’s Empowerment

NAIROBI, Kenya — On May 22, 2025, President William Ruto met with the National Executive Council of Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO), led by National Chairperson Rahab Mwikali Muiu, at State House Nairobi. The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to collaborating with MYWO and similar organizations to further its transformation agenda, including the implementation of Universal Health Coverage and community empowerment initiatives.

Established in 1952, MYWO is Kenya’s oldest registered women’s organization, boasting a membership of over 4 million women across the country. The organization focuses on nurturing and empowering women through capacity-building interventions that promote women’s rights and sustainable livelihoods in society.

During the meeting, President Ruto acknowledged MYWO’s pivotal role in grassroots women’s empowerment and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to achieve national development goals. He highlighted the organization’s contributions to promoting maternal and child health, family planning, and training women in leadership and development.

Chairperson Rahab Mwikali Muiu expressed gratitude for the government’s support and reiterated MYWO’s commitment to working alongside the administration to empower women and communities across Kenya.

The engagement between President Ruto and MYWO’s leadership signifies a strengthened partnership aimed at enhancing women’s participation in national development and achieving sustainable socio-economic transformation.
