Ruto, Museveni, and Odinga Unite for Launch of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya

Siaya, Kenya – In a landmark event showcasing regional unity and cultural celebration, Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto, PhD, officially launched the 20,000-seater Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya County. The inauguration served as a centerpiece for the Piny Luo Cultural Festival, bringing together political and cultural leaders from across East Africa.

Joining President Ruto were Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Raila Odinga, Kenya’s former Prime Minister and African Union Commission Chairperson candidate. The host of the event, Siaya Governor James Orengo, led a delegation of regional governors and other dignitaries who graced the occasion.

The newly opened stadium symbolizes Kenya’s commitment to advancing sports infrastructure and fostering cross-border harmony through multinational sports competitions. Speaking on the initiative, President Ruto highlighted the importance of promoting talent exchange and regional integration.

The event concluded with an electrifying football match between Kenya’s Gor Mahia and Uganda’s Kitara Football Club, which saw Gor Mahia claim victory in a thrilling contest. This match was a testament to the shared passion for sports and camaraderie in the region.

The Piny Luo Cultural Festival, which celebrates the heritage and traditions of the Luo community, provided a vibrant backdrop for the festivities. The combination of sports and culture underscored the event’s aim to deepen ties among East African nations.
