Seahawks 36, Packers 16
SEATTLE (AP) _ Marshawn Lynch rushed for 110 and two touchdowns, Russell Wilson threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Seahawks started defence of their Super Bowl title with a 36-16 win over the Green Bay Packers.
Lynch, who ran for 1,257 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, barrelled through a trio of Packers for the TD with 3:41 left before halftime to give the Seahawks a 17-10 lead. He added a 3-yard TD run on the first play of the fourth quarter for a 29-10 advantage.
Wilson made sure everyone knew Percy Harvin was healthy finding the speedy receiver seven times.
Aaron Rodgers threw for 189 yards and a touchdown, but the Packers’ up-tempo offence was stymied by Seattle.
Chargers 30, Seahawks 21
SAN DIEGO (AP) _ Antonio Gates had three touchdown catches and the Chargers controlled the tempo to keep Seattle’s offence off the field.
Gates’ 21-yard catch late in the third quarter was epic, as the star tight end split two defenders and extended for Philip Rivers’ pass, reaching out with his left hand to gather it in. Flat on his back, he held up the ball to show the officials he made the catch that gave San Diego a 27-14 lead.
Rivers was 28 of 37 for 284 yards.
Seattle (1-1) had nine days to prepare after a 20-point opening victory against Green Bay.
Seahawks 26, Broncos 20, OT
SEATTLE (AP) _ Marshawn Lynch scored on a 6-yard run on the first possession of overtime and the Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos 26-20 in a Super Bowl rematch that lived up to expectations.
Seattle (2-1) blew a 17-3 fourth-quarter lead, watching Denver tie it at 20 on Peyton Manning’s 26-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Tamme with 18 seconds left in regulation and his 2-point conversion pass to Demaryius Thomas.
But Manning never saw the ball in overtime, thanks to Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. After nearly getting sacked for a safety and throwing an interception in the fourth quarter, Wilson was brilliant in overtime. Wilson rushed for 21 yards and was 4 of 6 passing in overtime. Lynch went the final 6 yards.
Manning led the rally for Denver helped by a number of Seahawks mistakes. He was 31 of 49 for 303 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw a costly fourth-quarter interception.
Wilson finished 24 of 34 for 258 yards and two touchdown passes, both late in the first half. Lynch had 88 yards rushing and also caught a 5-yard TD pass.
Seahawks 27, Redskins 17
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) _ Russell Wilson rushed for a career-high 122 yards and a touchdown Monday night, and the Seattle overcame more than a dozen penalties _ including three that wiped out apparent touchdowns by Percy Harvin _ in a 27-17 victory over the Washington Redskins.
Wilson completed 18 of 24 passes for 201 yards and two more scores for the Seahawks, who displayed an uncharacteristic lack of crispness coming off their bye. Coach Pete Carroll’s team drew 13 flags for 90 yards, keeping the game closer than it probably should have been.
Seattle (3-1) improved to an NFL-best 21-8 on Monday nights, including nine consecutive wins. The team is 11-1 in prime time under Carroll.
Cowboys 30, Seahawks 23
SEATTLE (AP) _ DeMarco Murray ran for a 15-yard touchdown with 3:16 left and became the second running back in NFL history with six straight 100-yard games to start the season as the Dallas Cowboys stunned Seattle 30-23.
Dallas overcame a pair of special teams turnovers and became the first team outside the NFC West to win in Seattle since 2011. Murray’s touchdown run capped a 75-yard drive that saw Tony Romo convert a third-and-20 finding Terrance Williams along the sideline.
Russell Wilson ran for a 9-yard touchdown and Mike Morgan returned a blocked punt 25 yards for a score. But after being lauded for his Monday night performance, Wilson was part of a miserable day for Seattle’s offence.
Rams 28, Seahawks 26
ST. LOUIS (AP) _ Punter Johnny Hekker’s pass from the St. Louis 18 caught Seattle by surprise for the last of three big plays by Rams special teams.
Stedman Bailey had a 90-yard touchdown on a trick return that fooled the Seahawks into thinking another player was going to catch the punt. Benny Cunningham’s 75-yard kickoff return set up an early touchdown for the Rams (2-4).
Russell Wilson rushed for 106 yards on seven carries and also passed for two touchdowns while going 23 for 36 for 313 yards.
The Seahawks (3-3) dominated statistically, outgaining the Rams 463-272. Doug Baldwin’s’ 9-yard reception cut the deficit to two with 3:18 to go, but the Rams were able to run out the clock after Hekker’s completion to Cunningham.
Seahawks 13, Panthers 9
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Russell Wilson threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Luke Willson with 47 seconds left. It’s the third straight year Wilson has brought the Seahawks (4-3) back from a second-half deficit to beat the Panthers on the road. In the previous two seasons, Wilson threw second-half TD passes to Jermaine Kearse and Golden Tate in tight defensive games.
Carolina’s defence, which had allowed at least 37 points in four of its previous five games, held the Seahawks in check before Wilson led a nine-play, 80-yard drive for the only touchdown.
Wilson finished 20 of 32 for 199 yards with one interception and one touchdown.
Seahawks 30, Raiders 24
SEATTLE (AP) _ Marshawn Lynch rushed for two first-half touchdowns, Bruce Irvin tipped and intercepted Derek Carr’s pass and returned it 35 yards for another score and Seattle beat Oakland.
After a tumultuous previous month, the Seahawks (5-3) won their second straight behind a strong first half, three field goals from Steven Hauschka and a defence that made Carr look like a rookie much of the afternoon.
Russell Wilson struggled through one of his worst passing games and the Seahawks failed to capitalize on numerous chances to rout the winless Raiders.
Seattle led 24-3 at halftime only to see the Raiders score on a blocked punt for a touchdown and two Mychal Rivera TD catches to pull within six in the final minutes.
Lynch finished with 67 yards rushing and another 76 receiving as the Seahawks handed Oakland (0-8) its 14th straight loss dating to last season.
Seahawks 38, Giants 17
SEATTLE (AP) _ Marshawn Lynch rushed for a season-high 140 yards and career-best four touchdowns.
Russell Wilson threw two interceptions, the Seahawks committed three total turnovers, and Eli Manning picked apart Seattle’s secondary for the first half. It all didn’t matter because of Lynch leading Seattle’s unstoppable run game.
The 350 total yards rushing by Seattle (6-3) were a franchise record and the most by any NFL team since Kansas City had 352 in 2012.
Lynch carried 21 times, but there was plenty of running to go around. Wilson added 107 yards on 14 carries and a 1-yard TD run with 5:19 left.
Chiefs 24, Seahawks 20
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Kansas City stopped Seattle on fourth down three times late in the fourth quarter, holding on for a tense victory in a matchup of playoff contenders.
Jamaal Charles ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns, and Knile Davis also ran for a score, as the Chiefs (7-3) won their fifth straight game and moved into a tie for first in the AFC West.
Russell Wilson threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns, and Marshawn Lynch had 124 yards rushing for Seattle (6-4). But the Seahawks’ star running back, fresh off a four-touchdown game, was stuffed twice by the Kansas City defence with the outcome hanging in the balance.
The Seahawks’ last-chance drive ended when Wilson threw incomplete on fourth-and-18 at their 20-yard line with 1:13 left in the game.
Seahawks 19, Cardinals 3
SEATTLE (AP) _ Russell Wilson found backup tight end Cooper Helfet for a 20-yard catch-and-run touchdown late in the third quarter, Steven Hauschka kicked four field goals and Seattle handed the Arizona Cardinals their second loss of the season, 19-3.
Wilson was sacked a season-high seven times by Arizona’s ultra-aggressive defence and the assortment of blitzes they called to confuse and fluster the Seahawks quarterback. But when Seattle (7-4) needed a scoring drive, after squandering advantageous field position throughout the game, Wilson delivered.
The victory was a must for Seattle if it had any hopes of getting back into the division race. The Seahawks entered the day trailing Arizona (9-2) by three games in the NFC West.
Arizona was held to a season-low 204 total yards. A week after throwing for a career-high 306 yards, Drew Stanton was 14 of 26 for 149 and one interception.
Seahawks 19, 49ers 3
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) _ Richard Sherman set up the only touchdown with another key defensive play in this heated rivalry, then made a second interception with the 49ers driving late, and the Seattle ended a five-game losing streak on San Francisco’s home field with a 19-3 win.
Steven Hauschka kicked four field goals and the Seahawks’ stout defence held Colin Kaepernick and Michael Crabtree in check as Seattle (8-4) overcame 14 penalties for 105 yards, including an offensive pass interference that negated a touchdown.
Russell Wilson passed for 236 yards and thoroughly outplayed Kaepernick, who had one of his worst performances for the 49ers.
Kaepernick was just 16 for 29 for 121 yards.
Seahawks 24, Eagles 14
PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Russell Wilson threw two touchdown passes, ran for another score and Seattle stifled Philadelphia’s high-powered offence in a 24-14 victory over the Eagles.
Wilson had 263 yards passing and ran for 48 to help the Seahawks (9-4) win their third straight. Richard Sherman and Co. held the Eagles to 139 total yards, the fewest under Chip Kelly.
Pete Carroll was the winner in his first NFL matchup against Kelly. In the coaches’ only other meeting, Kelly’s Oregon Ducks beat Carroll and USC 47-20 on Oct. 31, 2009.
Seahawks 17, 49ers 7
SEATTLE (AP) _ Marshawn Lynch rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown, Russell Wilson threw a touchdown pass to rookie Paul Richardson, and the Seahawks knocked archrival San Francisco from playoff contention.
The defending Super Bowl champions remained in contention for a division title and No. 1 seed in the NFC.
After a sluggish, sloppy first half, Seattle (10-4) awoke in the final 30 minutes behind the running of Lynch and a defence that shut out the 49ers, holding them to 67 yards. Colin Kaepernick was sacked six times and the 49ers didn’t run a play past the Seattle 38 in the second half.
Lynch scored on a 4-yard run late in the third quarter and the Seahawks took advantage of a short field on their next drive, capped by Wilson’s strike to Richardson.
Seahawks 35, Cardinals 6
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) _ Russell Wilson threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, Seattle set a franchise record with 596 yards of offence and the streaking Seahawks closed in on another NFC West title.
Seattle (11-4) moved into a tie with Arizona (11-4) for first in the NFC West.
Wilson had the longest run of his career (55 yards) and matched the longest pass of his career (80) in the Seahawks’ fifth straight victory.
Marshawn Lynch sat out the first quarter with what the team called an “upset stomach,” then came in to score on a 6-yard run in the second quarter and a spectacular, multiple tackle-breaking 79-yarder in Seattle’s 21-point fourth quarter.
Seahawks 20, Rams 6
SEATTLE (AP) _ Marshawn Lynch scored on a 9-yard run, Bruce Irvin returned an interception 49 yards for a touchdown and the Seahawks wrapped up home-field advantage through the NFC playoffs.
The two fourth-quarter touchdowns by Seattle (12-4) capped a six-game win streak to end the regular season. That earned the Seahawks a second straight NFC West title and the ninth division title in franchise history.
St. Louis couldn’t take advantage of two first-half turnovers by the Seahawks and its only points came on a pair of field goals from Greg Zuerlein.
Seahawks 31, Panthers 17
SEATTLE (AP) _ Russell Wilson threw three touchdown passes, Kam Chancellor returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown, and Seattle beat Carolina.
Wilson hit Doug Baldwin on a 16-yard touchdown in the first quarter, found Jermaine Kearse on a 63-yard score in the second quarter and capped the night with a 25-yard TD pass to Luke Willson early in the fourth quarter.
The Seahawks (13-4) never trailed and became the first defending Super Bowl champion to win a playoff game the following season since New England in January 2006. Cam Newton threw a pair of touchdowns to Kelvin Benjamin, but Carolina couldn’t overcome three turnovers.
Seahawks 28, Packers 22, OT
SEATTLE (AP) _ Russell Wilson hit Jermaine Kearse for a 35-yard touchdown 3:19 into overtime to lift the Seattle Seahawks to an improbable 28-22 victory over Green Bay.
The Seahawks became the first defending champion to make the Super Bowl in 10 years, and will play the winner of the AFC title game between Indianapolis and New England.
Outplayed much of the day and plagued by five turnovers, the Seahawks (14-4) trailed 19-7 with 2:09 remaining. That’s when Wilson ran 1 yard for a TD. Seattle recovered a bobbled onside kick at the 50, and Marshawn Lynch sped and powered his way to a 24-yard TD run. Wilson’s desperate 2-point conversion pass was hauled in by Luke Willson to make it 22-19.
But Aaron Rodgers led the Packers (13-5) to Mason Crosby’s fifth field goal, from 48 yards with 14 seconds to go.
Then Wilson and Kearse struck.
