Kingston, December 20, 2021 – ‘Cheese’ by Skeng and ‘Streets’ by Vybz Kartel and Squash has been creating a strong buzz underground and on mainstream media. Both songs pay homage to the streets in different ways; ‘Cheese’ glorifies ‘rich badness’ while ‘Streets’ speaks to the reality of the ‘grimy’ nature of the streets. All in all, both songs are dubbed street anthems for 2021 and beyond.
Fast emerging talent Skeng is no stranger to dropping hits, so fans anticipated another hit especially with Tarik ‘Rvssian’ Johnston of Rich Immigrants and Head Concussion Records at the forefront. A part of the chorus for ‘Cheese’ sings:
“Yow, a anything them want fi do
Them can’t get fi do it ’cause we a lock the street
From Spain Town gone Glock Bush
We a hunt fi the cheese ‘pon the line a the least”.
While paying homage to his hometown, Spanish Town, Skeng is praised for having a unique voice and delivery in his new song. The video for ‘Cheese’ has been on YouTube’s trending for more than 3 weeks and features a cameo appearance by Rvssian himself.
‘Streets’ by Vybz Kartel and Squash came as a surprise to fans worldwide who were treated to a ‘raspier’ flow from the deejay. Produced by Aiko Pon Di Beat and Vybz Kartel Muzik, ‘Streets’ has been trending on YouTube since its release and has received raving reviews. The chorus sings:
“Pocket pon “E” but di draco it load yeah
Four nozzle lean pon di Probox door deh
‘Care how yuh cold, a di streets a di coldest
So nuh fall in love wid ‘e streets, cah streets nuh love nobody”.
In what seems like a poetic delivery from both Squash and Vybz Kartel, fans can be seen commenting on YouTube:
“It’s funny how Kartel could sing so much songs and use so much different flow and voice… now tell me if this man ain’t the greatest singer to ever walk the earth cause like every other deejay he works with the time and always have a song for the present…”
“At this point we need a collab EP with Vybz Kartel and Squash and I’m demanding it ‼‼ Every song they do is a chemistry from the laboratory”
Even in the festive season, both ‘Cheese’ and ‘Street’ distributed by Hapilos are fan favourites.
