St Thomas Carnival Returns This Weekend with Paint, Foam, and Pure Soca Vibes

MORANT BAY, St. Thomas — The energy of Caribbean Carnival will surge through Jamaica’s eastern parish this weekend as St Thomas Carnival returns in full force at Colonel Cove on Saturday, May 3.

Revived in 2022 after a multi-year hiatus, the event has quickly reestablished itself as the parish’s leading soca showcase, welcoming major acts like Iwer George, Oscar B, and Razor B in recent editions. This year’s staging promises even more excitement, culminating with a headlining performance by Skinny Fabulous, one of the Caribbean’s most electrifying soca performers.

The mission behind St Thomas Carnival is clear: bring high-caliber soca entertainment to local residents who would otherwise have to travel to Kingston or further to get that same experience.

“St Thomas residents are fond of partying and they deserve the same type of look and feel of soca events that are staged in Kingston and other parts of the island,” said promoter Dave Goldson. “We will be giving them a quality show this weekend—from set up to music to the live performance.”

Unlike other events labeled “Carnival” in the parish, Goldson emphasizes that St Thomas Carnival maintains its authenticity by staying rooted in soca music and not defaulting into a dancehall session. A key challenge, he noted, is the lack of consistency from local selectors in playing current soca music throughout the year—something this event aims to change.

To support that vision, the DJ lineup includes Kingston’s Matt Camps, and the duo FYAH Man and Devva Kidd, alongside St Thomas natives DJ Orrette and DJ Lus—all contributing to a vibrant, soca-centric atmosphere. Add in foam, paint, premium lighting, and top-tier sound, and partygoers can expect the full Carnival experience without leaving the parish.

“Persons should come out to St Thomas Carnival this weekend from St Thomas, Portland and even Kingston—on the toll-less highway to Morant Bay—because they will be treated to the look and feel of a true soca event at a fraction of the cost,” Goldson added.
