Subban gets 2 assists as Canadiens beat Penguins 4 1; Yandle rallies Rangers past Flyers

P.K. Subban and Andrei Markov had two assists apiece, and the Montreal Canadiens beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 on Monday night in a preseason game at Videotron Centre in Quebec City.

Alex Semin, Lars Eller, Brian Flynn and Dale Weise scored for Montreal. Carey Price, who won the Hart Trophy last season for NHL MVP, and the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top goaltender, made 22 saves.

Beau Bennett scored for Pittsburgh, and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 24 shots.

Quebec City and Las Vegas are bidding for NHL expansion franchises.

RANGERS RALLY FOR OT WIN OVER FLYERS

In New York, Keith Yandle’s penalty shot goal 1:16 into overtime lifted the Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Yandle was awarded the penalty shot after being hooked by Scott Laughton on a breakaway. The defenceman beat Philadelphia goaltender Steve Mason with a quick snap shot.

New York trailed 2-0 heading into the third period. Dan Girardi’s goal at 4:21 cut the deficit in half, and Chris Kreider drew New York even with a wrist shot from the low slot at 18:53.

Rangers goaltender Antti Raanta made 27 saves.

Mark Streit and Wayne Simmonds scored for Philadelphia. Steve Mason made 41 saves.

JURCO LIFTS RED WINGS OVER BRUINS

In Boston, Thomas Jurco had a goal and an assist, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-1 victory over the Bruins.

Drew Miller and Andreas Athanasiou also scored for Detroit. Jimmy Howard made 31 saves.

Loui Eriksson’s power-play goal with 51 seconds left in regulation accounted for Boston’s only score.

Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask allowed three goals on 24 shots.

GRUBAUER, PETERS TOP ISLES

In New York, Philip Grubauer and Justin Peters combined for 23 saves to lead the Washington Capitals to a 3-1 win over the Islanders.

Sean Collins and Andre Burakovsky scored for Washington. Burakovsky’s power-play goal 7:39 into the third was the game winner. Karl Alzner added an empty-netter with 57 seconds left.

Kirill Petrov scored at 18:09 of the third for New York. Thomas Greiss made 22 saves.
