Teetimus denies dissing Beenie Man

Dancehall Musician, Producer and Recording artiste Teetimus has come out to clarify statements he made on his Instagram live last week as the conversation has been taken out of context by YouTube gossip channels.

Teetimus, who recently shot a music video for a single he has recorded with King of the Dancehall Beenie Man, has had his project delayed by the labels who own the rights to songs by Beenie Man that Teetimus featured in the current track entitled ‘Gyallis Routine’. Tracks Old Dog and Sim Simma were featured in the new song to give the international audience a throwback vibe to the songs that made Beenie Man a legend.

My management team, Trill City Global, has had issues getting the greenlight from the labels after weeks of communication. It’s frustrating me because the owners of Dancehall music have sold rights to these songs to labels and so artistes aren’t in control over their own music” Teetimus shared

While on his Instagram page late last week Teetimus was sharing his experience, he mentioned that the music is sold to these white owned labels and Beenie Man doesnt own rights to the tracks in question.

I never exposed Beenie Man as a sell out to the white man, these gossip sites just like to sensationalize things for views. I have the utmost respect for Beenie from days when I was a musician,” Teetimus clarified

While Teetimus believes it’s sad that artistes from the 90’s don’t have much say in what happens with their material because they dont own any percentage of the mastered files of the songs, he doesn’t blame Beenie Man for the delays he is facing with Gyallis Routine clearance.  He is also urging young artistes to take stock of their material and ensure that publishing includes ownership as well.

The future of Dancehall and your legacy as an artiste is dependent on how you handle the business side of the music,” Tertimus added

Teetimus who is gearing up to release a Full EP entitled ‘Bad Radio’ including the first single with Beenie Man entitled ‘Gyallis Routing’ has just signed a Management deal with Trill City Global based in London who will also be distributing the project.
