Dominican Republic’s Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources Orlando Jorge Mera
June 10, 2022 | Colin O. Jarrett | The childhood friend accused of fatally shooting the late Minister of Government in the Dominican Republic Orlando Jorge confessed to shooting the Minister because he was denied environmental permits on behalf of various companies.
The suspect Miguel Cruz served as an intermediary between the companies and the ministry and was denied permits by Minister Orlando Jorge..
According to documents obtained by the Associated Press, that particular permit involved a request to export 5,000 tonnes of used batteries.
Authorities reveal that the permits were somewhat tied to the 2020 campaign victory for the former Minister’s Modern Revolutionary Party.
