The Latest: First lady Michelle Obama pops up in ‘Billy on the Street’ Emmy nomination

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP)_ Here’s the latest on the 67th annual Primetime Emmy nominations announced Thursday in West Hollywood, California, by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (all times local):

12:48 p.m.

Michelle Obama’s name is popping up in an Emmy nomination.

A “Billy on the Street” episode with Obama, Big Bird and Elena is nominated for outstanding short-form live-action entertainment.

To raise awareness for her “Eat Brighter” campaign, Mrs. Obama joined quizmaster Billy Eichner for a special edition of his comedy game show, posted on the Funny or Die website. Obama competed with Big Bird and past “Billy on the Street” guest Elena in a supermarket contest called “Ariana Grande or Eating a Carrot?”

Obama’s press secretary, Joanna Rosholm, tweeted out congratulations:

“And the Emmy nom goes to ”Billy On The Street with ?FLOTUS, ?BigBird & Elena!!!“ Congrats ?funnyordie ?billyeichner!”

The episode has some stiff competition _ including shorts with Brad Pitt and Katy Perry. The other nominees are:

“Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis: Brad Pitt”; “Childrens Hospital”; “Key & Peele Presents Van And Mike: The Ascension”; “Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show Starring Katy Perry.”
