THE TORONTO CARIBBEAN CARNIVAL ANNOUNCES THE WINNERS OF THE KING & QUEEN SHOWCASE AND BAND OF THE YEAR
TORONTO, ON (August 8th, 2019) – The Toronto Caribbean Carnival is pleased to announce the winners of the King & Queen Showcase held on August 1st at Lamport Stadium, in addition to the Band of the Year at the Grand Parade, which took place on August 3rd, 2019.
The King & Queen Showcase was hosted by CP24’s very own Patricia Jaggernauth on August 1st, 2019. Opening ceremony included special guest, Ahmed D. Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship; Adam Vaughn, M.P; Lisa McLeod, Minister of Tourism Culture & Sport, and Joe Halstead, Board Chair of the Festival Management Committee.
The Ontario Science Centre presented the coveted “Innovation in Mas Award” for best costume design at the King & Queen Showcase. The winner of the 2019 innovation in Mas Award was Nicholas Guy, he portrayed “Heartbeat of the last Conflict” as part of the Louis Saldenah Mas K Club. Guy was also crowned King that evening.
The King & Queen Showcase is the grandest and most spectacular show of the Toronto Caribbean Carnival. The Kings, the Queens, and individuals of the Carnival bands all unveiled their elaborately themed costumes highlighting the creativity and imagination of the costume designers.

The Grand Parade took place on August 3rd, 2019 with (9) competing bands and over 17,000 energetic and colourful masqueraders from all over the world, making this the largest event of the Toronto Caribbean Carnival.
After months of preparation, masqueraders in colourful and striking costumes celebrated in a jump up style to the exotic beats and culture of the West Indies.
Participants swayed to the harmonic sounds of the various DJ’s and steel pan bands all while making their way down the Lakeshore. The road became a stage for the masqueraders, the DJ’s and steelpan performers ignited a cultural explosion of music from all over the Caribbean.
