THE TORONTO CARIBBEAN CARNIVAL ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF JUNIOR KING AND QUEEN & JUNIOR PARADE

TORONTO, ON (July 22nd, 2019) – The Toronto Caribbean Carnival is pleased to announce the winners of the Junior King & Queen held on July 14th and the Junior Parade, which took place on July 20th, 2019.  

The Junior Parade kick started at the Malvern Community Centre on July 20th with over 2,000 little masqueraders in (9) competing bands. During the ribbon cutting ceremony, The Mayor of Toronto, Mr. John Tory and Deputy Mayor, Michael Thompson, along with other council members officially declared a month of events at City Hall for the Toronto Caribbean Carnival.

The Junior Parade travelled west on Mc Levin Ave, then headed north on Neilson Road to enter the judging station. The parade climaxed with an exciting Family Day event at Neilson Park, including a Junior Chief Competition sponsored by Grace Foods.

For the first time, the Junior King & Queen Showcase was held in Scarborough at the Malvern Town Center complex. Young male and female performers 16 years and under showcased the creative work of talented artists, designers, and costume builders from (9) competing bands. In total, 48 Junior Kings, Queens and individuals participated in the event sponsored by Malvern Town Center and Freshland Supermarket.

Toronto Caribbean Carnival Festival 

The Toronto Caribbean Carnival Festival, formerly known as “Caribana,” was established in 1967 as part of Canada’s 100th Anniversary celebrations by Caribbean immigrants as a cultural gift to Canada. 

Produced by the Festival Management Committee, the Toronto Caribbean Carnival showcases the best in Caribbean arts and is recognized as a major international cultural festival, the largest of its kind in North America.

The Caribbean Canadian community that inspires and gives life to the Toronto Caribbean Carnival Festival is comprised of Canadians with heritage taken from Barbados, Bahamas, Guyana, Grenada, Jamaica, Haiti, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and the other countries of the Caribbean.
