Toronto International Oware Tournament and Family Fun Day – OCTOBER 15, 2016

OWARE FlyerToronto, September 14, 2016 – MACPRI in partnership with TDSB’s Africentric Alternative School present the 3rd Toronto International Oware Tournament and Family Fun Day, scheduled for Saturday October 15th, 2016 from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM at the Africentric Alternative School, 1430 Sheppard Ave. (West of Keele Street).

The Toronto International Oware Tournament and Family Fun Day is a FREE ADMISSION EVENT, with fun children’s activities, performances, storytelling and free breakfast. (Only tournament participants pay to register).

There will be food on sale, exhibits, and an African Market Place. Donations will be accepted in support of programming at the Africentric Alternative School.

MACPRI is pleased to announce that our feature performances will be by IU aka Kedar Waterman (singer and instrumentalist) and Nana Yeboaa (poet and writer). Photographs and biography for these artists are available upon request. Oware Day 2016 is hosted by Kofi Sankofa of Sankofa In Cipher.

TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION The tournament is an all ages inter-generational activity. Tournament registrants should be a minimum of 12 years old, however younger children who have the required skills for playing the game are welcome to register to be a part of the experience. A maximum of 256 players can pre-register at a fee of $10.00 each for a chance to win the TOP PRIZE of $300.00 plus gifts.

Tournament participants are asked to PRE-REGISTER by September 30. While some registration MAY take place on site October 15, note that there is no guarantee that participants registering LATE on Oware Day will be able to get a seat in the tournament.
