Tracy Brown Elected DDSB Board Chair for 2024-25
WHITBY, Ontario – Whitby Trustee Tracy Brown has been elected Chair of the Durham District School Board (DDSB) for the 2024-25 academic year. The announcement was made following the DDSB’s annual Organizational Board Meeting held on November 18, 2023.
First elected as a Trustee in 2022, Brown is an advocate for inclusive education and student success. She expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her by her colleagues and reaffirmed her commitment to fostering collaboration and accountability within the school board.
“It is an exciting time for the Durham District School Board, and I am honoured to take on the role of Chair for 2024-25,” Tracy Brown stated. She emphasized the importance of open dialogue and teamwork to achieve positive outcomes for students. Brown also extended her appreciation to outgoing Chair Christine Thatcher for her leadership during the 2023-24 term.
In addition to electing Brown, the Board named trustees to several key roles for the upcoming year:
- Deb Oldfield (Oshawa) was elected Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Standing Committee.
- Kelly Miller (Ajax) was elected Vice Chair of the Committee of the Whole-Standing Committee and Chair of the Governance and Policy Committee.
- Carolyn Morton (Brock/Scugog/Uxbridge) was acclaimed as Chair of the Education Finance Committee.
The Board of Trustees expressed collective enthusiasm for the year ahead, with a focus on promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in public education.
