DOHA, Qatar (AP) _ First the emir, then Conan and the troops.

U.S. first lady Michelle Obama spent part of her first full day in the Gulf Arab nation of Qatar Tuesday, holding talks with its emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The official Qatar News Agency says they talked about bilateral relations and other topics, including education.

Obama later travelled to the vast al-Udeid air base outside the capital, Doha. She and late-night talk show host Conan O’Brien are there to meet personnel stationed at the military installation, which serves as the forward headquarters for U.S. Central Command and hosts dozens of aircraft participating in the U.S.-led campaign targeting Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq.

Obama wraps up her Qatar trip with a speech on education Wednesday before heading to Jordan.
