Violence Against Women In Jamaica is on the DECLINE.

There has been a raging debate as to whether violence against women is on the rise.  Social media has been highlighting every time there is an alleged attack. We are never sure if these reports are accurate. Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). Has now supported the view expressed by the Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson.

The Facts

Contrary to public and social media reports and alarm actual stats provided by the Police high command is pointing to a reduction in mostly say attacks or homicide against women. (Murders in particular).

Fifty Percent

Since 201 the figures show a gradual reduction in these reported killings and an actual decline. Based on international norms it is 50 percent in Jamaica.  The international norm is 19 percent.

Dennis Brooks, Senior Communications Strategist for the

“It is not true to say that crimes against women are on the rise. In fact it is on the decline.

The shootings are in the last 10 years about 13 percent.  This applies to violence across the board.

“Rape is 100 percent. Men do not report rapes. “

Continuing Brooks said Inter alia:

“In 2017 was the year of all attacks. Violence is across the years affects everyone.  If you want to raise the boat then fill up the pool.”

Dr. Herbert Gayle

“Violence is the problem and affects all. Dr. Herbert Gayle has been telling us this for a while. Women are more likely to be hurt by someone she is close to. She is far likely to be less armed by a stranger. “

Commentary

The bashing of men by certain media personalities including Miss Pretty is not supported by the statistics supplied by the JCF.

Over the last 10 years the stats are either flat or a slight decline. So perception that there is an increase in violence against women is not supported by the facts.

Let us stop rumour mongering instead of the facts.  Let us wise up.
