Violence in Haiti
July 15, 2022 | By Colin O. Jarrett |
At least 89 people are reported to have been killed Friday in a week of gang warfare in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince. Several others are injured.
The Mayor of the neighbouring city said 2 criminal alliances known as G-9 and G-Prep were fighting for control of the area.
The violence began just a day after the first anniversary of the assassination of President Jovenel Moise.
Since President Moise was killed, violence has soared in Haiti as gangs battle over territory and the government has struggled to crack down.
