William and Kate meet With Governor General at Kings House during royal Visit to Jamaica

Yesterday, Their Excellencies The Governor-General and Lady Allen received Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on a Courtesy Call at King’s House in Jamaica.

In a brief ceremony, The Duke presented Platinum Jubilee Medals to the Chief of Defence Staff, The Commissioner of Police, the Commissioner of the Fire Brigade, the Commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services and the Chief Medical Officer of Health.

The medals were awarded in recognition of the work of their respective bodies in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background

William and Kate are in Jamaica as part of a Royal Tour celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.  This visit has been met with protest along the way.  There have been strong calls for the island Nation of Jamaica to drop the Queen as head of state.  Prince William is set to address this issue at a dinner at Kings house later tonight.

Jamaica’s Governor General acts as the Queen’s Representative in Jamaica.
