Zambia – Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to peace and dialogue through recent discussions with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. The talks, held on August 6, 2024, underscored the enduring bilateral relationship between Zambia and Ukraine, which has been strong since 1993.

In light of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, President Hichilema emphasized Zambia’s dedication to promoting peace and stability through diplomatic channels. The discussions also highlighted Ukraine’s plan to leverage Zambia as a regional grain distribution hub, a strategic move that aligns with Zambia’s goals of enhancing its economic role on the global stage.

President Hichilema expressed support for Ukraine’s initiatives, noting that the collaboration will not only benefit both nations but also contribute to broader regional stability. By establishing Zambia as a key player in the grain distribution network, the partnership aims to address food security challenges and bolster economic growth in the region.

This strengthened partnership reflects Zambia’s proactive approach in international diplomacy and its strategic vision for economic development. The commitment to supporting Ukraine’s efforts underscores Zambia’s role in fostering global peace and stability while advancing its own economic interests.
