Buju Banton wins Jamaica Festival Song Competition

Reggae recording legend Buju Banton continues to have a great year post release with his latest contribution to the Jamaica reggae scene.  The song in which he wrote and recorded for the Jamaica 2020 Festival song competition has just been awarded as the winner.  The song titled “I am a Jamaican” was chosen amongst many submissions by way of a vote.

Minister Grange

Gender, Sport, Culture and Entertainment Minister Hon. Olivia “Babsy” Grange congratulated the singer in person and via twitter.

Minister Grange said that she was happy with the decision to have the public select the winner.

“We put the power to choose the Jamaica Festival song into the hands of the public and i am happy to see how much Jamaicans warmed to that idea.” said Minister Grange.

“I am satisfied to see the renewed interest in the Jamaica Festival Song Competition after years of hard work to revitalize our national celebrations.” she added.

Buju’s Reaction

In his first comments after being named the 2020 Jamaica Festival Song winner the reggae icon said:

” I want to congratulate the true winners tonight.  Everyone who participated in this competition; your all winners.  I was happy to share the stage with you all. But for me the true winners is the Sunbeam Boys Home.”

Prize

The winner was awarded  J$3 Million dollars in cash and prizes to be split between the singer, song writer, and producer.

Buju Banton has said he will donate his winnings to the Sunbeam Boys Home children’s charity.
