Youth Innovation Takes Center Stage at 10th Jamaica Diaspora Conference

Kingston, Jamaica – In a bid to harness the creativity and energy of Jamaica’s youth both at home and abroad, the 10th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference is set to feature a groundbreaking youth innovation challenge. Organized by the Global Jamaica Diaspora Youth Council (GJDYC), this initiative aims to inspire and empower young minds to contribute to the island’s development through innovative projects and ideas.

The Conference, scheduled for June 16-19 at the prestigious Montego Bay Conference Centre in St. James, will serve as the backdrop for this exciting competition. The GJDYC, formed in March 2020, seeks to strengthen the ties between Jamaica and its Diaspora, particularly among second, third, and fourth-generation Jamaicans living overseas.

During the virtual satellite Conference launch in Trinidad and Tobago, Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Alando Terrelonge, extended a warm invitation to young leaders of Jamaican descent to participate actively in the event. Minister Terrelonge emphasized the critical role of youth in shaping Jamaica’s future and encouraged them to present their innovative ideas during the Conference.

The youth innovation challenge will be a highlight of the Conference’s program, with the top three projects earning the opportunity to be showcased. These projects will not only highlight the ingenuity of Jamaica’s youth but also contribute to discussions surrounding the Conference’s theme: ‘United for Jamaica’s Transformation: Fostering Peace, Productivity, and Youth Empowerment.’

Furthermore, Minister Terrelonge underscored the importance of youth involvement throughout the Conference’s proceedings, with dedicated sessions and panel discussions aimed at empowering young voices and fostering collaboration.

Beyond the Diaspora, the Conference also aims to engage Jamaicans and Caribbean nationals in the region, with discounted rates available for attendees. Interested individuals can register online through the Ministry’s Evenbrite website, where they can access additional information and accommodation options.

As the Conference draws nearer, anticipation is mounting for what promises to be a dynamic and impactful event. With youth innovation taking center stage, the 10th Jamaica Diaspora Conference is poised to catalyze positive change and inspire a new generation of leaders committed to Jamaica’s transformation.
