“The Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson is reporting that, this year to date, we have a 6% decline in murders, 20% decline in shootings, 14% decline in robberies, 67% decline in rape and 11% decline in break ins, and an overall decline of 19% in major crimes.” said the Jamaican PM.

SOE’s

State of Emergencies have been a big topic of debate in Jamaica.  The Andrew Holness led JLP Government has been using the SOE strategy to get guns off the streets in several communities in Jamaica.

The Prime Minister is proposing strict new gun laws that will see anyone caught with an illegal fire arm face a minimum jail sentence.

Commentary

It is good to hear that crime in Jamaca is on the decline but i am not sure if it is a result of the Sate of Emergency or Zones of Special Operations.  More social programs are needed to keep Jamaican youth from falling into a life of crime to begin with.
