In an unprecedented move the Electoral Office has asked the army to move the ballot boxes for western St. Thomas, currently held by the JLP and retained based on preliminary count by 300+ . In the middle of the recount to certify results, the electoral office has ordered that the ballot boxes be moved to their headquarters in Kingston. It is not clear if this move is illegal.

The army head reports to the Defence Board which is chaired by the PM Portia Simpson Miller who remains as PM until the new PM is sworn into office. In short she is still in charge of all government departments and boards etc.
Dr. Horace Chang, General Secretary of the JLP in a statement has accused the government of trying to steal the elections due to it’s closeness. The PNP has denied this accusation.
In the interim there is tension and we are in a dangerous space. The PM has called for calm. The PM in waiting Holness has asked all to keep calm.
