GOLDEN MIC ARRIVES IN JAMAICA AHEAD OF RUGGU DAT AWARD CEREMONY THIS WEEKEND

Kingston, Jamaica – The Ruggu Dat 14K Golden Mic Awards event is already garnering mainstream interest ahead of the actual staging on April 27 on the Lawns of Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre.

The actual Golden Mic, with its official certificate of authenticity, has officially arrived in the island after weeks of being moulded and mounted by Daniel’s Jewellery in Florida. The White Gold 14 Karat microphone with black diamond tip is mounted on a marble base with the specific engraving for this year’s recipient – Carl ‘Professor Nuts’ Wellington.

After contributing to dancehall music for over three decades, Professor Nuts is finally getting his flowers as a true pioneer in music and entertainment. The artiste community is especially supportive of Nuts being the first to receive the award valued at more than One Million Jamaican Dollars. Veterans and new acts alike see this as well deserved.

In a special interview Beresford Hammond also endorsed Nuts receiving the award

“Professor Nuts deserves more than an award; he has done well at his job so this Golden Mic is well deserved, A big time award this and he is the professor at his craft!”

Professor Nuts discovered his passion for music long before he realized it would be his career. While he was a night watchman he listened to a Chaka Demus cassette to quell the boredom and then began writing his own lyrics; after performing these lyrics at a bar and seeing how receptive patrons were, immediately a career spanning 30 years was born.

“It feels bittersweet to finally get recognition for my years in dancehall. This award is a legacy that will be in my family even when I am long gone, I will cherish this Golden Mic for sure.” Professor Nuts shared

Some of his closest friends including Orville Shaggy Burrell, Damion Junior Gong, and Beresford Hammond, have thrown their support and patronage behind the award. Ruggu Dat 14K Golden Mic awards will also include music from Krazy Kris, Metro Media and Dj Nutzie. The event will be hosted by Yanique Curvy Diva and Johnny Daley with performances from; Professor Nuts, Lady G and Agent Sasco.
