Hawks’ star Al Horford leads Basketball without Borders camp in native Dominican Republic

NEW YORK _ Atlanta Hawks star Al Horford of the Dominican Republic will take part when a Basketball without Borders camp goes to his home country for the first time.

Run by the NBA and FIBA, the Aug. 16-19 camp in Santo Domingo will include Dallas Mavericks forward Charlie Villanueva, whose parents are Dominican, former Dominican national team NBA players Felipe Lopez and Francisco Garcia, and Tito Horford _ Al’s father.

Corey Brewer of the Houston Rockets and NBA veteran Luc Mbah a Moute also will help instruct 51 teenage campers from 18 countries in North and South America.

Basketball without Borders camps have been held this summer in Spain and South Africa. More than 2,400 campers have taken part since it began in 2001, with 37 eventually drafted into the NBA.
