Producer and DJ Mario C has been at the forefront of electronic dance music (EDM) in Jamaica over the past few years. Along with Kamal Bankay of 3rd Dimension and Dream Entertainment, Mario C recently completed work on the EDM track ‘Shake It’.

Shake it features the vocals of rising dancehall artiste Rayted. Rayted currently has one of the hottest street songs in the island, Forward.

In a release to the media, Mario C spoke about the Shake It single and the growing EDM movement locally.

With its bouncy and high-energy beat, Shake It is already connecting with FM radio and in street dances. Mario C felt the timing was right to release the dance track with Rayted’s vocals.

“I’ve been actively producing my brand of EDM for the last three years, but since this is a new sound to Jamaica I try to incorporate artistes who are either popular or currently have the attention of the streets to aid in my efforts. Rayted has one of the hottest street songs in Jamaica with Forward, so it was a natural fit,” Mario C explained.

Known for producing a slate of chart-toppers, including Tease Har by Anthony B and Back It Up by Beenie Man, among others, Mario C has released six electronic dance music tracks under the Jamhouse umbrella, which is a fusion of Jamaican dancehall/reggae and EDM.

“EDM is now a staple in our party culture and it would be a big shock to go out and not hear at least a couple EDM tracks. Major Lazer’s Bumaye (Watch out Fi Dis), featuring Busy Signal,s is a prime example of how popular EDM has become in Jamaica,” said Mario C.
