Tropical Storm Kate is moving quickly away from the Bahamas; expected to strengthen
MIAMI _ Tropical Storm Kate is moving quickly away from the Bahamas and is expected to reach hurricane strength.
The storm’s maximum sustained winds increased Tuesday morning to near 70 mph (110 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says some strengthening is forecast and Kate is forecast to become a hurricane by Tuesday night.
The storm is centred about 350 miles (560 kilometres) south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and is moving northeast near 21 mph (33 kph).
