After a spate of killings commonly referred to as massacres mainly in or around public schools … there seems to be a light at the end of a dark, if not bloody tunnel. There are reports that the required support of at least ten (10) votes by republicans in the Senate is now secured. This means that the a gun control bill could now become law.

Not Far Enough

President Joseph R. Biden has asserted that the proposed changes do not go far enough and as such do not fully meet his requirements. However, he has urged the house to move swiftly to enact the new changes.

Among the announced changes are the purchaser will be required to attain the age of 21 to be able to acquire certain calibre weapons in the USA and more should be spent to beef up school security.

Midterm Elections

With upcoming midterm elections in the USA, the Republicans are anxious to not alienate voters who are upset with school shootings.

Inflation

Recent reports of rising inflation on the economic front is threatening to wipe out the gains made on the gun control initiative. Electors in the USA tend to vote on economic issues that impact their pocket book. They are very sensitive to the cost of living.

President Joseph R. Biden must be holding his breath, hoping it may just pass the Senate. It would be a big breakthrough for his presidency.

Commentary

We hope this bill get passed. Half a loaf is better than none at all. We wish Biden well. The carnage must stop.
